ABOUT ME

Hello, I'm Sudheer Kommana a software engineer and an amateur Lepidopterist from India currently living in Kampala, Uganda. In May 1980, the die is cast and my fate as a butterfly photographer is sealed. Iam not a professional photographer, but what started as a hobby now forms an increasingly important part of my life.

My photographs reflect a lifelong interest and passion for Butterflies. Iam not just interested in Butterflies, I love them. I can’t find words adequate to describe my passion for these incredibly beautiful species. I began taking pictures of Butterflies in 2007 with my point and shoot camera and have continued to develop my Butterfly photography over the years.

Some subjects in photography are so perfect that they almost photograph themselves. With incredible and diverse colours and patterns, Butterflies are one such excellent subject. The beauty and brilliance of Butterflies are indescribable. You and I will feel an intense bliss when we are in encounter with them.

My passion for Butterflies and nature in general has taken me on many travels (refer to 'Butterfly Trips' page for countries visited in a paticular year). I seek to photograph these most beautiful and fragile Butterfly species across all the countries. There are thousands of species all over the world and the capacity to photograph them is endless (refer to 'Site Map' page for the list of Butterfly species by country and by location). I will try to accommodate as many Butterflies species as possible in this website. For more personal photos during the trips, please refer to 'Field Photos' page and 'Magical Fingure' page.

I hope that by encouraging an interest in Butterflies via my website, that others will also feel an urge to protect these incredible species and their habitats which are disappearing so rapidly from our planet.

I request all my website visitors to leave their valuable feedback/comments using 'Comments' page (or) reach me using 'Contact' page.

"Once upon a time, I dreamt I was a butterfly, fluttering hither and thither, to all intents and purposes a butterfly. I was conscious only of my happiness as a butterfly, unaware that I was myself. Soon I awaked, and there I was, veritably myself again. Now I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly dreaming I am a man" ~ Zhuangzi
